In the production of our steel ceilings, we are always looking to improve. Together with other companies in the steel sector, we are doing everything we can to reduce our collective footprint for steel production. We are excited to start working with Xcarb (soon).

The new innovation in the steel industry

XCarb is ArcelorMittal's new innovation. This recycled and sustainably produced beam steel is produced in Spain, where they use renewable energy to drive electric blast furnaces to reduce their "carbon footprint". The result of this green energy method is that there are almost no emissions in the production of the steel.

Since the mining and production of steel has the most impact, and not the transport, Xcarb remains a more sustainable option, even though it is transported from Spain. To make this transport as ecological as possible as well, we are making every effort to enable the first delivery with an electric truck.

Interalu for a greener future with EPD

An EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) is a document that informs about a product's potential impact on the environment and human health. At Interalu, our mission is to help build a greener future.

Even without Xcarb, Interalu's steel ceilings have a favourable EPD but we continue to strive for progress. By using XCarb, we can bring down our ceiling's CO2 emissions phenomenally.

Sustainable building

Building should be sustainable. That is what we strive for. That is why we like to help our customers reduce their carbon footprint and CO2 emissions during the construction process. The use of renewable energy and recyclable materials play a crucial role.

Interalu is fully committed to XCarb's three initiatives, namely:

  • XCarb® recycled and renewably produced: the production process that uses scrap (recycled material) and renewable energy purchased with verified certificates (guarantees of origin).
  • XCarb® green steel certificates: this ensures that customers can report an equivalent reduction in their Scope 3 emissions. This scope is in line with the "Greenhouse Gas Protocol". Products with these certificates are related to the blast furnace route. ArcelorMittal has carried out an assurance process in the design of these certificates, these are managed by the DNV.
  • XCarb® innovation fund: a fund launched by ArcelorMittal that encourages innovation in companies that can ensure that the goal of carbon-free steel production by 2050 can be achieved earlier.
