Recyclate

Interalu is committed to sustainability and circularity. This is why we are initially developing a climate-control ceiling, a ceiling solution with a lifetime of over 50 years. A ceiling that therefore remains in a building for a long time and, if desired, can be moved easily without waste.

We also pay attention to this in our production, and in our choice of materials and suppliers. We consciously choose suppliers close to home: Belgian if possible, and European otherwise.

Our steel suppliers currently use at least 15% recyclate for the production of our steel and our clip manufacturer also uses post-industrial recyclate in its production process, accounting for 37% of the recyclate.

Only our PE-RT pipeline doesn’t use recyclate yet. That is why we have started discussions with our manufacturer to find out how this can be done in the future, without compromising the current quality.

In addition to maintaining quality, we also want to reduce the environmental impact. During this research, we keep a close eye on this because recycling also has an impact on the environment!

Emissions

The CO2 emissions of the production process of Interalu (reference year 2021) here locally in Wilrijk are as follows:

·        Direct emissions (scope 1) = emissions from combustion of fuels, etc.:   88.25 tonnes CO2 equivalents

·        Indirect emissions (scope 2) = emissions from electricity generation: 109.60 tonnes CO2 equivalents

In concrete terms, this means that our own local production has an impact of barely 2% on the total CO2 emissions of our climate-control ceilings.

These CO2 emissions depend on the type of climate-control ceiling:

·        SAPP ceiling 26.7 kg CO2 equiv./m²

·        EasyKlimaPlus 19.7 kg CO2 equiv./m²

The biggest impact remains the production of the steel, but our steel suppliers are making plenty of investments to drastically reduce their CO2 emissions.
